Norfolk Trip Continued

Yesterday morning after a leisurely start and a hearty breakfast I dropped my birder’s wife off at Burnham Market so that she could browse and shop to her heart’s content and I went off and did a spot of birding.  I then picked her up just after midday and we found a spot in a country lane nearby where we parked up and had some lunch while watching a pair of Marsh Harriers quartering a field.  Also in the vicinity where three Turtle Doves and lots of Stock Doves.

After lunch, we decided to pay a visit to Titchwell again where we walked to the Parinder Hide and back before heading for home.  As per the previous day there was a Little Gull and two Spotted Redshanks and in addition a Spoonbill.  The Avocets were particularly showy being just outside the hide which provided lots of photo opportunities.

Last Minute Norfolk Trip

Over the past couple of weeks I have spent many hours in the field birding locally within an 8 to 10 mile radius of my house.  Despite my attempts, the birding locally has been extremely slow with the best birds being Grey Wagtails, Yellow Wagtails, Little Owls and a single Hobby.  What with the lack of anything interesting round here, a busy time at work and a hectic home life recently, myself and my birder's wife decided to go off to Norfolk for one night to get away from it all.

Spectacled Warbler
So, Sunday morning we left at 6:45am and headed for Burnham Overy to twitch the long staying Spectacled Warbler, which for both us was a new UK tick but not a new World tick.  It performed for a couple of minutes singing, just enough for me to obtain a couple of record shots.  We then spent the rest of the day relaxing round the local area including a late afternoon visit to Titchwell.  The local area gave us 3 Barn Owls, 2 Little Terns, 1 Marsh Harrier, Yellowhammers, Linnets, 1 Grey Partridge and several Red Legged Partridge.  Titchwell was relatively quiet but gave great views of Cettis Warblers, Reed and Sedge Warblers, a family group of Bearded Tits, 2 Spotted Redshanks in breeding plumage, 1 Little Gull, Black Tailed Godwits, Avocets and a raft of Common Scoter on the sea.

"Doom" and "Destruction"

When opening our front door one evening last week, I noticed two juvenile Carrion Crows by our wheelie bins.  The following morning they were by the side of my garage and then when I arrived home from work they were on my doorstep.  They had obviously adopted me, so I named them "Doom" and "Destruction".

"Doom"

Anyway, at some point that evening, "Doom" and "Destruction" got separated from each other with "Doom" sitting in our back garden and "Destruction" went missing never to be seen again.  Despite looking miserable and forlorn, "Doom" survived that night and when I got home from work that night I could not find him again.  Fortunately, after a few days of not seeing him, I noticed him on a nieghbour's roof on Friday evening and he appears to be doing well,
